Dale WI is a small friendly group and draws its members from Marloes, St Brides and St Ishmaels as well as Dale. We meet twice a month on Tuesday evenings in Dale Coronation Hall. Our speakers cover a wide range of topics ranging from “Wood-turning” to “Sailing the South Pacific” and we also draw on the talents of our own members who entertain us with tales of their their travels or demonstrate their artistic skills. In the summer we organise an outing – recent destinations have included the Senned, the Wool Museum, the Carmarthen Recycling plant, the Amazon Warehouse in Swansea and The Royal Mint – with, of course, a pub meal afterwards. Perhaps the highlight of the year is the Christmas Dinner – we each supply a dish and we enjoy a sumptuous spread with entertainment afterwards.
It is not all fun and frolics however, there are campaigns which look at various topics such as domestic violence, patients with dementia in hospital, food waste, plastic soup saving water and on-line gambling have all been discussed and raised. All these are important and the WI is heavily involved with trying to highlight the issues and to raise them in the public’s consciousness. So we cover nearly every aspect of life culturally, socially, current affairs and all points in between.
To add to our portfolio we looked after a section of Dale Walled Garden, planting fruit trees and flowers. The WI help to steward Open Days when we show off the beautiful space that is the Walled Garden.
So….why not try us out? We are a motley crew who are good company and are always looking for inspiration from new members. Lifts are available from most areas and you do need to be over 18!
Contact Mary Lewis (President) on 01646 636430 or Yvonne Evans (Secretary) on 636251 if you would like to come along to a meeting as a guest.
All meetings held in Jubilee Suite, Coronation Hall, Dale at 7.30 pm unless otherwise stated.
The first Tuesday of every month is a business meeting where campaigns and areas of interest are discussed as well as local issues relevant to Dale WI, while the third Tuesday of the month is more wide ranging and could be a talk, a visit, a trip to the theatre, an outing or just enjoying the company of others with a meal.
2022 – Dale WI celebrated it’s centenary – a year late but better late than never!
