Short-Mat Bowls in the Coronation Hall
The club was formed in 1996 and since then has been in continuous operation except for breaks in the summer when the hall is occupied by arts/crafts exhibitions.
Short mat bowls uses standard outdoor bowls on a 45 foot mat which is marked to simulate a conventional bowling rink. The shorter distance creates testing situations around the jack. Competition, though friendly, can be very keen. It is a game in which the ladies compete on equal terms with the men. The club has an adequate stock of bowls, players need only a pair of flat (heel-less) indoor shoes.
The weekly sessions are held on Tuesday afternoon, starting at 1.00 o’clock. Normally there are three games of five ends each. With a break for tea about 2.30 the session ends about 3.30. This programme can be amended according to demand.
To defray expenses there is a charge of £1.00 per session. Regular members pay also a £5.00 annual subscription.
